Concept development for a web application to enable farmers to operate their grain facilities digitally and securely on mobile devices.

About the project
Tornum develops and manufactures solutions for grain industries with its core business in drying technology. These are continuously further developed to suit market needs.
The working environment for farmers has changed significantly in recent years. Many farmers now run several parallel businesses, which means that the demands on being able to operate their grain facilities remotely have increased.
The assignment was to develop a concept for a web-based app that would enable farmers to control their drying facilities digitally and securely on mobile devices.
My role
In the role of UX designer, I developed a digital concept for a web-based application that enabled a more intuitive and secure management of grain facilities for farmers. Given the limited timeframe of the project, an efficient and goal-oriented work process was required.
The work began with a two-day workshop where representatives from technology, development, marketing and business management, as well as farmers, came together to define a clear vision. The workshop aimed to identify relevant target groups, user needs, business and technical constraints, potential risks and opportunities, and to prioritize features for a minimum viable product (MVP).
To ensure a deeper understanding of the users' work processes, I then conducted an observation study at a grain facility. The study provided insights into how farmers work with the existing control system, how the facilities work in practice, and what challenges farmers face today.
Based on the insights from the research phase, I developed concept sketches and user flows, which were continuously validated with Tornum representatives through iterative workshops. The project resulted in a clickable prototype that was finally evaluated through usability testing.

Liska and me collaborated on developing digital advanced online control for complex flows in grain handling. I am impressed by Liska's ability to quickly familiarize herself with the project's technical functions and flows, and quickly translate this into communicative solutions for the customer, both visually and interactively.

She works efficiently, agilely and methodically. The control was primarily adapted for mobile devices and laptops. Liska was responsible for workshops, user stories, UX design and carried out user tests in the project. It is a great privilege and asset to have Liska in a development team.
